The small lake is fine for practice. But, as Gary points out, you may soon tire of it. I don't like lakes (even bigger ones) that are just round ponds. I like to get out of sight of my starting point, else it doesn't seem like I went anywhere.
If you leave the mast up, and pull the boat into a lakeside storage area, I would slacken the back stay, and port shrouds slightly while still on the water. Then re-tighten after launch the next time. The boat's hull and deck flex slightly between full floating bouyancy, vs localized trailer bunk supports. I don't want to over-stress any lines during temporary flexing. Maybe this is an irrational fear, but I never tighten any rigging unless I'm afloat.
