Boom Support

Question to anyone with practical info:
I now have a boom support sweged to the backstay. It works, but sometimes I wish I could raise the main without having to run back to unhook the boom support on those blustery days.
I have been thinking of adding a topping lift in addition to the current support.
Any thoughts on this?
