Doug,

Your 23D is a different boat than the 2023 - in many respects. The rig is put together so much better in terms of hardware/extrusion. Also your rudder assembly is bullet proof. The boat was designed to participate in coastal MORC events - the 2023's weren't.

If you get caught out in high winds, reef early, hank on a smaller jib, etc. What will save your bacon in high winds is your experience and how well the boat holds together.

Although I love my 2023C, it has taken several years to beef her up. The stock rig, rudder, centerboard, etc left MUCH to be desired. The 2023's were intended for quick setup/daysailing sold at a low price point. Your D was originally sold to experienced racers often with ocean experience. Have fun with your daggerboard version - she can take a lot!
