My worst experience is fog on Lake Erie. Going through the Lake freighter channel was pretty un nurving. Those huge hulks of steel looming out of the fog one by one. Finally found Grose Isle Island & a guy w/ two babes in dingy show me the way back to the boat launch.
I have never been real sucessful in getting a good reef w/ the system use on the Santans. Can't imagine doing it single handed what is your technic)? I am heading in the diresction of putting in some reefing points in the main for that purpose.
FYI, I did have my boat listed for sale & found a buyer but when it came for the test sail I could not get the boat to the water becasue of some personal situations. So, my point is that I feel any money put into the boat will increase the vaule at least of the investment & maybe more. That makes me feel better about possibly investing in new sails, rudder, fiberglass the tank (professionally done),& a new electric start motor would be nice. Did you do any coating to our ballast tank?
The price of fuel & the shallow draft of the Santana is a couple of big reasons why I am keeping her for another season or more. Oh yea, a job is another BIG reason. Imagine buying a new boat & the finding a pink ship in you box. Bummer. Michigan is a not what it use to be. Probably will never be the thriving State it once was again.
Go Army, Allen
