I noticed you dropped the halyard a foot and rolled the main around the boom.
My S21 has this feature - I think.
On the foreward end of the boom is a ratchet type affair. It looks like you would do just what you said. Lower the halyard a foot or so and turn the boom to take up the slack in the sail. (Need to remove the vang . . . )
The reverse is what looks like it may not be so easy, although I've never tried. It looks as though you need to again relax the halyard, pull the boom aft to unlatch the ratchet and unwind the main from the boom. tighten the halyard and go. (I don't have a fully battened main so jamming the mast wouldn't be an issue for me.)
Is this correct? Again, I've never tried it. I've got a furler on the jib and pretty much just use that when it gets too breezey for the main.
