Ever since I've had my boat, (10 years now.), there was a very small gelcoat crack, directly in the rear starboard deck corner. Just last year I drilled out and installed a larger and lower drain hole at that location.
When I did the initial drilling on the starboard side, I found a large air bubble in that location where the gel coat had covered the spot. *The fiberglass underneath was fine.
After lowering the drain hole, I simply filled in the area where the hole was and nothing has shown up. The port side by the drain hole was just fine.
I've tried several different drain holes and finally chose a stainless steel tube and after hearing another owner talk about the rain and residue buildup in the rear, I lowered the hole too.
