I was wondering why the mast track was setup the way it was. The boom is on the small piece that is maybe, I don't know, no more than a foot or so long. There is a gap in the mast groove that allows the sail to flop out. I have a sail stop in there now to keep it in place. Otherwise, to raise the sail it is necessary to feed the slugs into the track as the sail goes up; which seems like a pain in the ass. However, the sail needs to come out of the track if it is to wrap around the boom.
I'll play with it the next time I get out on the boat.
If I can find a way to make it work reasonably well, I would have essentially an infinite supply of reef points. Good in theory.
On the other hand, this style of reefing fell out of favor for a reason.
