As to the split rings (ring dings), many of the guys I've sailed and raced with over the years would take a little piece of duct tape and fold it over the ring after setting it in place. No way could it pull through like that. Now, who can direct me to some 9-foot oars. I'm about to ditch my damned outboard once and for all!
