I keep reading posts here about desire to cross oceans, I sit and wonder each time when I read about the sailor.

The Seafarers are very strong boats! I am sure that with some common sense and practical nautical modifications, most Seafarers are capable of ocean crossings. BUT, just because the boat is up to the task doesn't mean the crew is. The same toughness of the crew is required as well. I don't think that most weekend sailors are NOT ready for an ocean crossing. I know I am not, without some serious training and preparations.

Anyone who has spent a night sailing their Seafarer in a serious storm knows that the boat is sound but the effort on the crew is equally intense. Early on in my sailing I had the "opportunity" to sail my S22 in a serious storm on The Chesapeake Bay, the wind was up to about 40+ knots and the seas were 8'! Another vessel foundered that night and 5 people drowned. I don't think I would want to cross any ocean on a small boat.
