Charlie and Joe,
You both have made some wonderful points on upgrades to your Seafarers to make them more suitable for serious sailing. Do either of you think the Seafarer can be made seaworthy enough to incur a major knockdown or even multiple knockdowns and survive?
When I look at my S29'my main concerns are the cockpit storage areas and main companionway. The cockpit storage area on the starboard side is an open access to the main cabin, and the storage area on the port side is much the same only separated by a thin sheet of plywood. There is no way I would make the main companion way water tight the way it is currently constructed.
I believe the addition of water tight bulkheads in several areas including those open cockpit storage areas and perhaps between the main and forward cabin would be a good safety addition. Also the hatchcovers on the storage areas and the hatchcover for the main companionway would have to be completely redesigned and rebuilt to make them water tight in the event of a major knockdown.
