interior. We made some significant changes inside. For one thing the original boat had 4 berths, now we have three.
Settee aft, port side. The door you see holds our galley utensils- pots, pans, dishes, etc. That used to be the foot of a settee berth. All interior wood trim is varnished Ash by the way, except for the soles and steps leading in. Those are oiled Teak. ALL of the Ash trim was finished AND installed by Laura.
You can also see the settee back storage we built in- the settees used to go all the way to the hull sides and had zero storage, or on some boats a small shelf. We now have two lockers on each side and the shelf on top. The cushion you see has a cover of a Mola from the San Blas Islands- we have four of those and they are velcroed closed- they hold sweaters, extra covers, etc.
Here's the interior of that galley locker.
And here's a close up showing the shelf for plates, etc. Theres a small plastic drawer under that shelf for long utensils.
Laura planned ALL of that storage.
The sink lifts out for emptying- there are NO through hulls left in the boat- zero. The ice chest is aft of the sink, under the bridge deck- it was moved forward and totally insulated with 3 1/2 to 4 inches of foam. It'll hold a 15 pound block of ice for an easy 10 days.
The sink by the way, is a steam table tray from a restaurant supply house- 13 bucks Water is supplied by a Whale foot pump- I refuse to have a hand pump on the boat.
This pic is of the main bulkhead 'tween cabin and cockpit.. The top step flips over and has formica on the other side. It forms a step and also part of the counter space, as needed. On the starboard side under the counter is a pull out shelf that we also use as extra counter space and as a chart table. The second step lifts up and reveals a garbage can under it. Behind that is storage- would be engine if she was an inboard. The electrical panel was built by Laura. The white thermos IS a Thermos- came off an old airplane. They used to serve coffee from those. We put hot water in. You just twist a valve to run the water out.
The depth sounder swings out into the companionway so it can be used from the cockpit.
The stove is kerosene and mounts in the square stainless plate on the bulkhead. It's double gimbaled and can be (and IS) used underway.
We added the only regular light above the galley area. Also added two of these grab handles- invaluable at sea-The light came off a PSC 25 by the way.
The rest of the interior lighting is LED which has either white or red LEDs. There are one exactly alike in the main and forward cabins. The one in the fore cabin is mounted directly behind this one, back to back.
Or we can use the oil lamp-
The Vee berth area sucked- it had a regular marine head and it's piping and through hulls. I gutted the vee berth area except for the water tank, then we designed and built a storage locker on each side ( mirror images) that give us storage space on each side. There is also a drawer each side under that first section of berth. The Vee berth is now 4 feet wide at the head, instead of almost 7. Both Laura and I are relatively small people ( she's 5'2, 108 pounds) so that's plenty of space for us. The after cushion lifts out and stows during the day and the porta potti is under the second one, which hinges up and forward.
And here's the lady who sanded, varnished and installed all that trim, sewed all the cushions, made the bimini, painted the entire interior of the boat, primer AND top coats and did many other jobs aboard . I was building a boat for a customer at the time so she worked on Tehani while I was at the shop, then I'd come home and finish whatever she had ready for me. She is probably responsible for AT LEAST 60 % of the restoration, if not more, so it's very much her boat too.
That hold ya for a bit?
