I am in the same situation (boat...lol) as you are. I need to rebed Lights and such just because the boat has been out of the water for about five years and you never know.
I have learned to use the proper silicon and use it properly so I am not afraid of it. I am old enough to remember when "plastic boats" came out back in the late '50's and all the old sailors would say, " you will never catch me out on one of those plastic things. Hell, they'll fall apart in the first rough seas you hit. Damn fools."
It is strange how slowly we change with the onslought of new technologies. I remember when I first used silicon way back when...I hated the stuff and stayed with polysulfides cause that was what was in vogue at the time. I went back to silicon a few years back when this guy showed me a way to use it where it didn't get on everything around it and how to make it so you didn't have it showing. If I need to have an adhesive quality to my bedding compound I don't use it.
I'll be in touch. Do you have a trailer for your boat?
