Greg - I am very glad you enjoyed the boat. Although I only had her one year, I was impressed - I didn't have any leaks - dry bilge, etc. The simplicity of a smaller boat : no inboard, water dripping from stuffing box, etc certainly has it's merits. I think the addition of a marine head would be a couple hundred bucks well spent, especially since you already have the new tank. I would definitely put a new, full opening 1 1/2" seacock uf near the toilet, so you don't have t opump as much water through the hose, to get it overboard. I put a new Lavac toilet in this year, with 3 y-valves so I can: - pump directly overboard - pump into holding tank - pump out holding tank from deck pumpout - use lavac pump to empty holding tank out through seacock
Worked pretty well, but it was very hard to get all the hose connections in a confined space. I used the white sanitation hose (around $3 / foot, not the $9 / foot stuff), and it was very hard to get that hose on the connection, even after heating the ends in water - they set quick, but seal very well.
This winter i will be: - Rebuilding the engine (actaully my brother is a mechanic, so he'll be doing most of it) - cleaning, sanding, and painting engine compartment - removing and refinishing most interior wood (replacing bad boards) - removing all mostold electrical / running new wiring - removing rubber rub rail and recaulking hull-deck joint - removing all deck hardware and probably sanding, painting cabin and deck, before rebedding all deck hardware - removing and cleaning diesel tank - checking / possibly replacing rudder post bearing & lower rudder pintle ***** if you haven't already - clean off and ckeck the lower rudder pintle & gudeon attachment to the skeg - There is info on back pages of this site, as it is a known weakpoint, and could result in the loss of your rudder *********** - install new chartplotter and radar (if my radar can't be fixed) - replacing standing rigging - cutting out / installing new teak & holly cabin sole - the list goes on.
Keep in touch! You will have to come down to Chester, and come out for a day next summer.
Here's a pic of us, at the end of a row of boats, anchored on Grand Lake.
