The Reason it's made in two pieces is so you can remove the rudder. After you slide the rudder in place you fit the top part of the gudgeon to one side of the rudder skeg then slide the lower half of the gudgeon and swing it to the other side of the skeg. You then through bold the two halves together. If you try to make what you are looking at you would need a very large hole at the top of your rudder shaft to be able to get the rudder out of the boat. As for the bearing at the top from what I have read and seen on my Seafarer no they don't come with a bearing mine just had a large washer as the bearing screwed to the cockpit sole. Absolutely no good we had a marine workshop make up a proper bearing at the correct angle to bolt down to the cockpit sole. cost in Australia about $400.00 but had to be done as we converted the yacht from tiller to wheel steering and the top bearing has to work well.
