On one of the other classic sailboat bulletin boards I came across photo's of two different Bill Tripp 31's that the owners had altered by adding a vertical skeg along the centerline aft of the rudder. One was a Seafarer 31 sloop, the other a Tripp/Lentsch of the same era.
I haven't tuned the rigging on my 31 yawl (new to me this season), so I have just assumed that the weather helm she exhibits is a function of a loose forestay and the lack of a proper downhaul or vang on the main. Now I'm not so confident. Have any other Seafarer 30 or 31 owners had balance problems with their hull/rigs? Any ideas?
Pics of the altered hulls are attached (I hope)
