After 8 years of ownership, I'm still trying to find out what jib was originally designed for my 1976 S24. When I bought it, I found 3 different sails in the lockers: a "working" jib, a (120%?) jib and a genoa. The last two were in incredibly poor condition, so they may indeed have been original. The "working" jib, however, was obviously the mainsail off some smaller boat such as a 14'. Problem was, both smaller sails were 'deck sweepers' and I had to remove the pulpit and safety lines to use either one. To confuse me further, there is a fairlead built into the cabin wall right next to the shroud chainplates - if that was for the original jib, then the foot would have been limited to 9 feet or less.
I have gone online to several used-sails sites to look for 25' sails with a 9' foot, and have found two or three, but before I shell out $300 plus shipping for what may turn out to be a white elephant, would anyone on this list happen to know of or even have the original jib dimensions? Perhaps an original owner's manual? Or if I could find out who was making the sails for Seafarer back in the mid-70s, perhaps I could write to them...
BTW, I finally had North Sails make me a new mainsail, complete with logo and numbers 'n ever'thang, and the difference in weather helm is amazing! Guess I was a bit overdue on that one...
