Where is the real boat support on the trailer?

I have a question that all this talk of letting the boat rest on its keel brought to mind. When my S24 is sitting on a trailer is the true weight of the boat suppose to be on the board under the keel. Are the side boards to just hold it straight and upright on the trailer and should not really be taking much of the weight at all…? I really don’t have any idea but I would like to know. Does anyone know the true answer?

Oh, and here is another North Channel pic.
