EMERGENGY MOTOR MOUNT

This is something for Seawards equipped with either inboard or outboard motors.

When we cruise, we usually take a dinghy. For it’s motor, I carry a 5 HP, long shaft, outboard, thinking it could be used as an emergency motor for the Seaward. On our last trip to the Florida Panhandle, I became aware of the difficulty of installing/removing the motor from the dinghy while away from a dock. I realized that removing my 95#, 9.8 Nisson would be extremely difficult. If I were to use the dinghy motor as a back up, I would have to find another way to mount it. My S26RK has a swim ladder on the transom. It is very substantial. I thought I could make a motor mount that would slide into the ladder’s mount. I have, and it works fine. I built it out of scrap aluminum that was available so it’s really overkill. It could be made of much lighter stock. I cut out all of the pieces and a local shop charged me $25 to weld it up. The bolts were ½” and fit the slot perfectly but you will have to grind the heads, making them thinner. The 2x8 board will be replaced with something nicer. The bolts will also be trimmed and all made presentable.
