For what it's worth, I like bow and stern lines wrapped around a snubber, and the lines heavy enough that if something happens to start the lines chaffing that I miss correcting before I leave the boat, the lines will be heavy enough to sustain some damage and still hold the boat safely to the docking cleats.
I then run lighter spring lines from the base of a the side stanchions to the dock cleats. I run the aft stanchion forward and visa versa. I don't run my spring lines off my three main cleats because then they are too long and can droop into the water too easily. Also being that long they get in the way of the fenders.
The reason I like the heavier dock lines is because a long time ago I had a dock line chaff through. Caused minor damage to my boat and my neighbors. Don't want that to happen again.
