hi folks, I have been hanging around yalls broad here for a few monthes. trying to pick up on what is going on in the "Seaward World". I have been looking the the Seaward's for sale online for the past six monthes, reading everything I could find. I have been sailing for over 25 yrs, my first boat being a Prindle 16 and my last boat a Catalina 30 (sunk by Hurricane Ivan) with several in between. for the bayou I live on I need a boat that draws 25" or less and want the biggest boat I can afford with that draft. the wife and I do alot of weekend gungholing here.
I have found a 88 S24 for 10k and a 94 S25 for 20K. the main differences are the 88 has a 9.9 Nissan outboard and the 94 has a inboard diesel. they both have wheel steering. other plus for the 94 is it has a trailer, jib furling, more electronics, and newer boat. I figure the diesel, trailer, and furling probally could justify 5-6K. but, does the newer model and extra foot add another 4k? in all my research I just don't see much difference in the later 24s and the earlier 25s. would love to have some first hand input here. money is tight but, I rather spend more to get alot more if that is the case. BTW, my Catalina 30 was the first sailboat I owned with a diesel and a wheel. I found those two items made solo sailing much easier.
thanks in advance for your input! Dan
