It's kinda long...
We sailed a Windrose 22 for about 5 years and then sold her due to being consumed with a large project on the house. We still had a Hobie 16 and sailed it for about another 4 years. We decided that if the right boat came along we'd get another mono for the slip. Well, we were walking down by the lake one evening and spotted what looked like a Seaward 25 way off in the distance. It looked like a nice boat and we thought that if one of those ever came up for sale around here we might just consider it. A few months later that same Seaward was in the classifieds but too expensive, then a few weeks after that, the price dropped but still too spendy. Then a few months later we spotted it in a local storage lot with a "for sale" sign on it so I decided to call and make an offer but it was not accepted. About 8 months later, I called again and made another offer,.. we haggled back and forth for a few weeks but again I struck out. I decided it was not meant to be.
Then, about 5 months later, on Christmas Eve no less, The owner calls to see if we're still interested in her boat? I said yes but our offer still stands. We haggled a bit on the phone and I even up'd my offer a bit and then she took me completely by suprise! She said that there is a wrecked Potter 19 down in the yard at the marina that's for sale and she wants it. She tried to deal with them on a trade but they wouldn't work with her so if I would buy that Potter and repair it, she would trade me even up for her Seaward. I told her I'd see what I could do.
The Potter was only 4 years old and nicely equipped. It had only been sailed 5 times and then dis-masted. After that it was abandoned at the marina. It took a few months but I bought it and then a couple more months to repair it and it was all done for a very reasonable price. Then I turned right around and traded even up for the Seaward. We were supposed to swap titles in June but the Seaward title got hung up and didn't transfer till the following August so in the meantime, we slipped and sailed that Potter till the title finally cleared.
It took over a year and a half but in August of 04, we took posssession of our new(to us) 1990 Seaward 24 but didn't get her into the water till May 27 the following Spring and the adventure began.
