Dan, The issue with the Seaward and trying to add a compression post is that the floor is part of the liner, and the ceiling is as well. The only true way to implement a compression post would be to cut access holes and take the tube all the way to the extreme surfaces.
The way mine was reinforced was the bulkhead was through bolted to another piece of wood on the back side, and then a piece was added between the wood bulkhead and the hull under the seat. In effect, this makes the wood bulkhead, plus the added section to the hull bottom, a compression post of sorts.
It may be possible to add a hockey puck of sorts under the floor to the hull and then let the post just rest on the floor. Something could be designed but we as a group have not taken teh time to put our collective heads together yet and actually design it before we have the hammer in hand to actually make the modifications.
What would be very interesting is to make this 'tube' a sort of jack so that the deck can actually be preloaded up!
