except we have hardwood mounting plate. handles our heavy motor well. I will say though that it takes some umph to lift motor from water - would not recommnend trying to lift merc 9.9EL w/wheel controls clear of water for anyone with back problems. A lighter 8HP 2-stroke could be a better way to go..
