I just back from 3 days sailing with my 7 and 8 year old grandkids in the Mimi, my Sea Pearl 21. We had lots of wind, sailed reefed much of the time, 15 to 20 mph. We survived two sets of severe storms which spawned tornadoes in parts of TN Friday. We found protected coves and anchored out, hunkering down under the canvas cabin enclosure. That sense of being so close to the weather and yet so safe is an extraordinary experience which always comforts me, though I find myself constantly asking the Lord for protection and thanking him for it so far. Fishing was good as we carried a live minnows with us, and had large mouth bass filets for dinner one night. We sailed reefed, two turns each, for about 1/3 of the time. Jay, you would have loved this entire experience. I am more and more convinced that the Sea Pearl 21 scratches a lot of itches. It sails great to windward, is fast, easy to launch and retrieve, at only 600 lbs. it is easy to haul, and large enough for a great overnight experiences.
