Dan,
I had saved these photos as I have been kicking the idea around for a while:
I am in the process of doing seats similar to the stock seats like these:
The biggest differnce is the stern rail seats sit outboard in a much different configuration than a rail like mine that does not have the catbird seats. Therefore, the toughest part of the project is that I am going to modify the stern rail. I am going to cut it where it attaches to the rear upright supports, bend it outward with a EMT tubing bender until the horizontal sections are parallel, sleeve in a new section and then reattach the ends. This will give a lot more sitting room, will mimic the stock seats and will geve me parallel stern rails in which to mount my bimini once the seats are done. Mine should look like a combination of the S24 seats above and a stock catbird seat.
I am making them out of Starboard and will probably add some teak strip accents. I have some 1" diameter Stainless Steel tubing and hardware that will support the seat similar to an add a rail kit found on the SternPerch seats:
Another angled support will attach to the upright of the stern rail to provide support and keep it from twisting. I'll attach it the the rear of the seat instead of the forward part as shown here:
I'll hopefully be putting them together in the next few weeks and I'll post some photos. Just some ideas that may lead to what you want.
Have a great time at BEER! Jim
