In Response To: Charles, on slugs... (Dougcan, YS24 "Twilight" Puget Sound & Lk Washington)

Don't want to do it your self? Spend less than $100 bucks and have a pro do it.

My new main was ordered with slugs. Wasn't sure I liked them at first. But now I love them. Its easy to drop and flake the sail onto the boom.

I sailed with WCTSS in Biscayne this weekend, and the slugs made putting a reef in easy. And made taking the reef out even easier.

I decided not to keep a reef in, I just worked on my skills, sailing close hauled right on the edge. I spent a more than a few moments with way too much rail buried, and lots of water washing the cabin windows. I also saw 6.3 knots on the GPS (when I dared to look).. I put a lot of miles under the keel, sailing about 60 statue miles between Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

I had some casualtys though. A button broke on my garmin GPS. It will have to go back for repair (and its out of warranty). And my tiller pilot died. It is under warranty, but its way wacked. And I really could of used it to help me motor into the wind when putting sails up.

Can I ask a question? Is your motor really that unreliable? I only ask because the only time my engine has failed was at the ramp (which has to be the best time). Of course mine is pretty new, and yours was probably a kicker for the mayflower.
