Ah, you would have enjoyed it. One of my fond memories was when I climbed the rigging, sort of, on San Diego's Star of India. I was in San Diego at the invitation of one of the San Diego yacht clubs and one of the club members, who was also a director of the museum complex, invited me down in the hold. There was a sample rigging from the masts, complete with a section of mast, the spar and the various lines. The Star used this to train sailors. It was great fun inching your way out over the spar, your feet secured only in the very lively line below the spar. Of course, I was only a few feet above the padded floor so a slip would not have been a big deal. But it was a lovely experience and one can't help but marvel at the courage of the old-time wind sailors.
