Yes the Hi-thrust model is what I have. It doesnt really have a regulator - it has a simple magneto type charger that is not very good at regulating the power supply. Try this - charge your good condition battery up fully then start the motor and run it at cruising speeds with very little load - say just the instruments and VHF. Then check the voltage - youll see it at 15-18v when you are not drawing much. I have a Voltage meter on my GPS that gives me the voltage all the time.
Bottom line is that there is a regulator of sorts but it doesnt work very well. Most of the stuff on your boat wont care however more sensitive electronics and Gel Cell batterys wil have a hard time.
When you spend a lot of $$ on batterys and electronics you need to have some way of monitoring the voltage all the time.
