Hey Roger, take a long look at a Cape Dory. I have the Typhoon (18.5) AND COULD NOT BE MORE PLEASED. I sail it more than my 28. Meets all your requirements, especially the stiff sailing characteristics your wife will love. Shoal draft, mine is 2.5 feet, fixed keel for simplicity,and a big boat motion through the water. My little boat, sails very nicely along at five knots, a little more with a breeze. Capes can be found in 22 feet as well, but a bit heavy, my typhoon is 2ooo#s
