Unless a new boat is a must, I suggest you consider a used one. I'm certain you could find a much better used sailboat for the same cost as a new Snark or Escape. I started sailing two years ago with this 1982 Mutineer. I paid $800 for the boat with all the rigging in ready-to-sail condition including a road worthy trailer. It won't win any races , but it's been great for our local lakes, and we've had wonderful sailing adventures in the Jersey ICW and even towed it to Florida to sail Pensacola Bay and Santa Rosa Sound.
