He may have -- but I assume he's no longer filling the ballast tank which cuts 1200# (though that's offset to some extend by the added weight of the amas, of course). Also, because of the v-shaped hull of the 26C (the bottom of which is normally full of ballast), the wetted surface problem (in comparison to typical tris) may not be so bad as you'd think.
I don't think he'll be beating any F-boats, but he probably had a good time designing and tinkering. It would be interesting to know if he did anything to the sailplan and what kind of performance he can get out of it.
