Ron, I was hoping to avoid the drudgery of tracking down my pics, posting them, adding the appropriate text, etc. (been busier than a one-armed wallpaper hanger AND a one-armed knife juggler around here, lately) so I did what I do best and PROCRASTINATED!
And lo and behold, Phil fixed the glitch in the archives!! Yayyyyyyyyyy!!
So here it is: http://bbs.trailersailor.com/forums/tsarchives21/index.cgi?read=646730
Been on my boat 7 or 8 years now, never hung up, never got loose, never flogged. It's easier to make than what it looks like from the pic. 1) You take about a foot of line. 2) Tie an ordinary overhand knot smack in the middle. 3) Fold it in half so the knot is at one end. 4) Make a loop at the center point of your one-piece continuous jib sheet. 5) Lay the knotted end just past the loop and seize the bejesus out of it. 6) All done.
Here's how it looks inserted into a jib clew.
Another variation on the same theme is from Russell. http://bbs.trailersailor.com/forums/tsarchives22/index.cgi/read/665580
My initial impression was that it was wayyyyy too marlin-spikey for me, but after my initial prejudice (anything not invented by me must have something wrong with it, somewhere) I came to appreciate that this could be attached to any line at any time, needed no real seizing and looks a LOT more Marlinspike-like, Ship-Shape and Bristol Fashion, than it really is! In other words: The PERFECT project for me!
Since your description sounds like you have two jib sheets, then one thought would be to use a variation on Russell's solution. 1) Tie a knot in each end of the two jib sheets. 2) Instead of a dual braid use a 4-line sennit. 3) Terminate two of the ends of the 4-line sennit in a loop. 4) Terminate the other two lines of the 4-line sennit in a Walker knot. 5) Braid the center body onto the existing sheets like Russell did. 6) The knots in the ends of the two jib sheets will keep from pulling out of the braided sennit part.
Hope this helps, Charles Brennan
